(C45s)Every Day I Have To Cry/ Everyone Needs Someone To Love by Arthur Alexander

Label: Buddah 492 Year: 1975
Factory sleeve included
Condition: M- $15.00
Here's a great song that's somehow entered the Nation's musical consciousness while never becoming a radio airplay hit. Originally written by Alexander, but not released on a 45 single, it was first a semi-hit for Steve Alaimo in 1963. The Gentrys recognized an opportunity in this tune later in the decade, but didn't manage to move above the bottom quarter of the chart. Finally, Alexander himself re-recorded it in the mid-1970's and, this version — reaching #45 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart — became the biggest "hit" of them all. Despite its lack of chart success, I bet if you play this for just about anyone, and they'll say they've heard it before. That's what I call a Classic!

Oh, and if you aren't suitably pleased with the A side, be sure to flip the single over. The flip is an irresistible, semi-Reggae rocker that I had to play twice tonight just to be sure I loved it as much the second time as I did the first. And.... I did! Note: This copy comes in a vintage Buddah Records factory sleeve. The A label has a faint date written on it (see scan).
