(C45s)I'll Cry Instead/ I'm Happy Just To Dance With You by The Beatles

Label: Capitol 5234 Year: 1964
Picture sleeve included: EX
Condition: M $140.00
I'll Cry Instead/ I'm Happy Just To Dance With YouBoth of these tracks were on the A Hard Day's Night album, as well as in the movie. This was one of several "filler" Beatles 45s Capitol released between the group's "regular" 45s "A Hard Day's Night" in the summer of 1964 and "I Feel Fine" in December, and this beautiful copy comes in a nice copy of the single's very rare picture sleeve! By the way, the matrix numbers on the label may indicate that "I'm Happy..." was the A side, but the judgment of the marketplace was clear, and "I'll Cry Instead" deservedly became the hit. Taking our cue since 2001 from the renowned Joel Whitburn's Record Research books, in displaying track order Classic 45s shows as the A side the track that became the biggest hit during the course of the single's play life; that's the way we report the Billboard chart information for each record as well. One other thing worth noting about this single: Guess who long "I'm Happy" is! You won't believe it's only 1:49 long. And you doubt me when I tell you that "shorter is better" when it comes to the cream of the crop of Rock'n'Soul. If the Beatles could write such a great, short song, aspiring songwriters should take note: You don't have to drag a song on to 4 or 5 minutes to make a worthwhile hit! (See our growing list of 45s With Unique Edited Versions for more.) Note: This beautiful copy comes has pristine Mint labels, and I'm delighted to report that the audio is pristine Mint as well — just gorgeous! The vinyl grades Near Mint to reflect very light signs of prior use. The picture sleeve (which books as high as $400 alone) grades EX, with ringwear (see scan) and, on the other side, an original retail price sticker. The 45 is the first pressing on the orange/yellow "swirl" label with white Capitol perimeter print.
