Charlie and Ray

Charlie and Ray were an American R&B duo active in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Known for their soulful harmonies and rhythmically intricate vocals, they brought a unique blend of gospel and blues influences to the burgeoning world of soul music. Their most influential work is arguably the single "I Love You Madly," which peaked at number 8 on the Billboard R&B charts and significantly shaped the direction of R&B music. Despite their brief period of activity, Charlie and Ray's contributions to the genre established them as important figures in the development of early soul music.

Here's a beautiful copy of this early 1950s classic with its distinctive beat, reminiscent of the one that later drove "Every Day of the Week" (Students) and "Bristol Stomp" (Dovells). This is the first pressing, on the yellow Herald label. Note: This 45 has Near Mint labels with just a hint of ringwear (see scan). The vinyl grades very close to Mint in appearance, and the audio ... is hard to grade. There's a hint of hiss at audio peaks, but it's not really a hiss... hard to describe, but a generally very loud and indescribably noisy... which is why I'm grading it a strong EX. It's extremely enjoyable... could be a bad production or poor mastering, actually. I have another pressing on the multicolor Herald label, however, that sounds exactly the same. I'm hard-pressed to describe exactly what keeps it from grading Near Mint, however.
