Red Prysock

Red Prysock was an influential American tenor saxophonist known for his significant contributions to the R&B and rock and roll genres in the 1950s. His dynamic style, characterized by a robust, honking tone, was a defining element of the early rock and roll sound. Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, Prysock gained prominence as a member of Tiny Bradshaw's band, but his solo career peaked with the hit "Hand Clappin'" in 1955. His influence is seen in the development of R&B saxophone techniques and his integration of jazz elements into popular music.

Here's a beautiful, Near Mint copy of the first pressing of this rare pair of Soul instrumentals, courtesy of veteran tenor saxophonist Red Prysock, the brother of singer Arthur Prysock. Both of these are major keepers, but on first listening I prefer the funkier flip... have a listen to the mp3 snippet I've added to our "jukebox." These tracks were picked up by Chess and re-released in 1968 on Chess 2042. As far as I can determine, they were the saxophonist's last recorded output. Note: The Near Mint labels have very light signs of wear (e.g., a tiny stain on the B side label... see scan), but no writing or stickers. The vinyl is likewise Near Mint, reflecting some very light scuffing.
