Walter and the Admirations

Walter and the Admirations were a Chicago-based soul group active during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Known for their harmonic vocal style, they blended elements of doo-wop and gospel into their soul music sound. Their most notable track, "Man O Man (What a Woman)", exemplifies their signature style and has made a significant impact in the Northern Soul scene. Despite their limited discography, Walter and the Admirations left an indelible mark on the genre.

Originally released on La-Cindy records (unknown catalog number). So little is known about this group and this release that it's not listed in any of the reference books I'm aware of. However, we know that someone's got a copy, cause the U.K. northern soul DJ's have been playing both sides of this rare item to death in recent years, especially the "Man O Man" side, which Kev Roberts puts at #73 in his latest top 100 list. And someone's got the master, which is how this limited edition Soul City reissue (U.K. release, small hole) came to be. Definitely worth checking out if you like your soul raw and rare. (Note: Audio on the B side is somewhat noisy in spots, perhaps reflecting a poor master copy, though the A side audio is pristine.) The year of issue is unknown.
