Here's a rare copy of Three Dog Night's very first single. Unlike nearly all their subsequent 45s, this one failed to crack the Bilozoard Hot 100. The A side is a raucous rocker that begins with a harder rendition of George Harrison's intro to "Ticket To Ride," or of the guitar that opens the Monkees "Last Train To Clarksville." The tune gives no hint to the coming, more soulful sound that would make the trio famous. Another interesting factoid about this release is that it's the only one with the group's name listed as "3 Dog Night," rather than "Three Dog Night." Note the rare Lennon-McCartney song, which clocks at only 1:40 in this version, on the flip. That song would be covered again by Springwell in 1971. Note: This copy comes in a vintage Dunhill/ABC Records factory sleeve. It has pristine Mint audio. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
