For What It's Worth (Stop, Hey What's That Sound) / Rock And Roll Woman

Originally released on Atco 6459. This is a new copy of the Atlantic Oldies reissue with the gold/black label in its original Atlantic Group sleeve. This impossible-to-find rarity features the group that launched the careers of Stephen Stills and Neil Young, among others. Note that Rolling Stone magazine puts the tune at #63 in its list of the 500 top Rock/Soul songs; Dave Marsh includes it, too, but not high enough IMHO, at #838 out of 1,001. The Springfield were mainly a Folk/Rock outfit like the Byrds, but here Neil Young's haunting lead guitar pushes the sound toward the Psychedelic side of the sound.
