Here's a very nice copy of this early Beatles single, which was the group's first Top 10 single in the U.K. (Their first single, "Love Me Do," peaked at #17.) Interestingly, the B side of the U.S. release, "From Me To You," was the group's followup to "Please Please Me" in the U.K. and became the Beatles' first #1 hit there in April 1963. (In the U.S., "Please Please Me" had been released in 1963 on the very rare Vee-Jay 498, with a different B side.) This Vee-Jay variant has the rainbow circle around the label, with the "bracket" Vee-Jay logo. It can also be distinguished from some otherwise-identical variants by having a comma between the two "Please's" in the title. Most variants do not show the comma, nor do discographies and other reference books. But it did appear on two or three variants of this single. I don't know the order of the many variations, and I have yet to find an authoritative source that does. So far, no source mentions the comma as a distinguishing characteristic... a curious omission. Note: The labels have ringwear and the vinyl is somewhat scuffed-looking, both grading EX. The audio, I'm pleased to say, is better than appearances would suggest, grading Near Mint.
