This consumer promo release features the first Bruce Springsteen single, packaged on the
B side of a 33 1/3 (small hole) 7-incher with Andy Pratt's terrific "Avenging Annie" on the A side. "Avenging Annie" is a weird but wonderful early 1970's classic. This is one of those recordings you either love or hate... And heaven help me, I'm one of the lovers. :-) Of course, back in 1973, no one outside of New Jersey had heard of Springsteen (I had heard the Asbury Park album only because I was dating a Jersey girl at the time), so he was considered B side material, because at least Pratt's single got some airplay! Needless to say, this is a pretty rare item, and a must for any collector of Springsteen releases. This copy comes with the original Playback promo sleeve; Playback was Columbia's "custom" label which they used to feature up-and-coming artists on Columbia and Epic. Note: The audio on both sides has some slight surface noise, but it's certainly not distracting except in the quietest passages.
