Backtrack/ I Can't Get Her Out Of My Mind

This is a new, unplayed promo copy from the Louise Neal collection, in its original Atlantic Records factory sleeve. This was the first of two singles released by this Brooklyn rock group. According to the publicity literature Atlantic released with the single, the group got their audition in the New York studios where the Rascals had just been recording, and both the engineer and Anita Wexler (Jerry's daughter) "flipped" over the group's Soul-Rock sound. Now, if only more station programmers had "flipped", "Backtrack" might well have become the top 10 hit Atlantic thought it could be. It's definitely genre-bending music, which I've previously categorized as Garage/Psych. Turns out that fans of Northern Soul find the B side a cool dancer, while the "Plug Side" has more of a Funky Soul feel to it. Note: The only flaw I noticed with this beautiful promo copy is that the vinyl, while otherwise-pristine in appearance, has a very mild, no impact warp, which is why the Vinyl grade is Near Mint. As noted, the audio is unaffected and sounds pristine. I just noticed a small scuff on the B side label, so I'm reducing the Label grade to Near Mint.
