Don't Mess Up A Good Thing/ Jerk Loose

Besides the classic soul duo dance number on the A side, have you paid any attention to the terrific groove taking place on the flip? And no, it's not Fontella & Bobby on that side... it's sax player Oliver Sain and his band (who wrote and also plays on the A side). Sain, who died in 2003, wrote and arranged both sides of this great single. He finally hit the RnB charts himself in the mid-1970's with a few disco-style dance tracks on Abet. Try slipping "Jerk Loose" into a Northern Soul set some night and see if the crowd doesn't go wild! Note: This is a copy of the first pressing of this great single, on the maroon/silver Checker label. The A side has a small date on it, and the B side has a drillhole that didn't quite make it all the way through (see scan).
