In addition to the A side classic, this reissue of Andrea Henry's signature tune offers an apparently previously-unreleased — and instantly lovable — instrumental, Northern Soul-style dancer on the B side. Credited to "The Groovesville Men," the label doesn't offer any details about the recording (year, producer, etc) except the writer credits. If this is actually a rare George Clinton track, probably recorded in the studio but never released, that's pretty cool. It's a wonderful recording whatever its origins, but since the reissue uses a reproduction Groovesville label, and since Groovesville was one of those
Detroit labels like Ric Tic and Golden World where studios sometimes "borrowed" Motown's core studio band, and since Clinton was then recording on Revilot, another of those Detroit labels, it does make some sense that this might be Groovesville's "house" band (i.e., Detroit's "house band") just improvising a great one! I don't have time to do anything more than I've done in searching for info on the web, but if I find out more at some point, I'll try to remember to update this listing! :-) Like all the 45s in this outstanding U.K. reissue series, this single has a large (U.S.-style) spindle hole!
