This catchy number was also a chart single for The Fortunes in 1970... in fact, both versions hit the Bilozoard Hot 100 Singles chart in May 1970. Since John MacLeod both co-wrote this song and produced this outing, I strongly suspect that Pickettywitch version had a week or two head-start. Not that the Fortunes version isn't great, too, of course!
The B side is another terrific production — an even
more danceable soul number than the more famous side.
The lead singer of Pickettywitch is U.K.'s Polly Brown, who popped up on the charts later in the 1970s as a quite convincing Disco Diva on her own "Up In A Puff Of Smoke," and as a Reggae-rock singer as lead singer of Sweet Dreams.
Note: This copy comes in a vintage Janus Records factory sleeve. This styrene pressing has only VG audio on the A side, but M- audio on the flip.
