Fans of 1960's Power Pop will really get a kick out of this beautifully packaged EP. Matthew Sweet, who scored several hits in the Modern Rock market in the early 1990s (plus one, "Sick of Myself," that made the Bilozoard chart), and Susanna Hoffs, one of the lead singers and guitarists for the Bangles, teamed up to record cover versions of four of their favorite Power Pop singles from the 1960's. Not varying far from the originals in arrangements or overall sound, they still manage to conjure a sound all their own. The four tracks here, covered on two 45 rpm singles in a bi-fold jacket with great liner notes (see scan), are:\r\n
- I See The Rain (one of the best tracks the Marmalade ever recorded)
The Village Green Preservation Society (a Kinks classic)- She May Call You Up Tonight (an obscure Left Banke track), and
- I Can See For Miles (a great Who single and the only bonafide 1960's hit in this collection)
Note: Both singles have custom sleeves and small holes. These tracks are culled from the duo's album
Under The Covers, Volume 1.
