Another smash from the small California label Slumberland, this one has not only great music, but a package that is simply a work of art! I mean, forget the recording and enjoy the amazing design: A striking picture sleeve, enclosing a lemon-yellow vinyl disk with a custom label that complements the sleeve. The inner sleeve is made of flat-black paper that's a fitting case for the brightly colored record.

Anyway, enough about the artwork? The Summer Cats clearly look to the 1980s/90s U.K. band Teenage Fanclub for inspiration. If you aren't familiar with that earlier band, they are among the groups that resurrected Power Pop in the late 1980s, suffusing the sound of earlier groups like Big Star and the Raspberries with a heaping helping of grunge. The B side of this single is particularly tasty.
