These dynamite Deep Soul sides were among those Columbia released after Aretha switched labels to Atlantic in 1967 and finally found her voice and the right producer with "I Never Loved A Man", released in March of that year. Clearly, it was Soul tracks like the rollicking, gospel-tinged "Lee Cross" that Jerry Wexler must have heard that convinced him to go after Aretha, and it was only too late that Columbia realized it was tracks like "Lee Cross" that really made their singer shine. This July 1967 release did manage to get some airplay in the Black/RnB market, cresting at #31 on the Bilozoard chart, but it failed to cross over to Pop radio. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Columbia Records factory sleeve. It looks almost new (Labels, Vinyl), and the audio sounds pristine Mint!
