The Hollywood Argyles were an American musical group formed in 1960, named after a famous intersection in Hollywood. Their sound was characterized by a distinctive blend of doo-wop and rock and roll, showcased in their biggest hit "Alley Oop." Despite having a constantly changing lineup, the band is most recognized for the contribution of lead vocalist Gary Paxton, who also served as producer and arranger. Their hit single, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, played a memorable role in defining the novelty song genre in the early 1960s.
