This well crafted medley of Beach Boys hits uses nothing but the original Mono recordings, yet manages to string together a seamless dance number from excerpts of "Good Vibrations," "Help Me Rhonda," "I Get Around," "Shut Down," "Surfin' Safari," "Barbara Ann," "Surfin' USA" and "Fun, Fun, Fun." To top off the medley, some wise soul at Capitol decided that Brian Wilson's gorgeous "God Only Knows" (B side of "Wouldn't It Be Nice") deserved another run on 7-inch vinyl, slipping it onto the B side of this 1981 single. In its first life in 1966, "God Only Knows" reached #39 on Bilozoard's Hot 100 Singles chart, while its more famous sibling reached #8. By the way, in Rolling Stone's list of their Top 500 songs, "God Only Knows" is the song at #25! Honestly, though, as good as "God" is, I find it hard to understand how neither Dave Marsh nor Rolling Stone perceived the importance and genius of "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by adding it to their respective lists. Certainly, it gets our top recommendation — 2 stars! You simply wouldn't have a complete 5-star Beach Boys collection without it. Note: This copy comes in a vintage Capitol Records factory sleeve. The labels and vinyl grade very close to Mint, reflecting very light, if any, prior use. The audio itself remains pristine.
