Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft/ Can't Smile Without You

From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy, in its original factory sleeve. I'm taking votes to see who else thinks this is one of the strangest songs of the late 1970s... especially strange coming from the Carpenters. What gave them the idea to cover this song from Klaatu, which, in the song's subtitle on the label is deemed "The Recognized Anthem of World Contact Day." Other contenders for weirdest (what were they thinking?) song title of the late 1970s is "Was Dog A Doughnut" (Cat Stevens) and "It Makes Me Giggle" (John Denver).
