Red Hot/ Pearly Lee

Now here's an essential touchstone in the history of Rockabilly... Originally recorded a couple of years earlier by Billy Emerson, this is a song that every Rockabilly artist has to play at some point or other. Emerson's version would be called Rockabilly, too, except he was black. (Still, that doesn't stop me from calling Chuck Berry a Rockabilly artist in my private thoughts...) This version by Billy Lee Riley is perhaps the best-known of the many covers that came out both in the 1950's and later on. But wait! There's more! The B side is another of Riley's greatest Sun recordings... another scorching hot Rockabilly number. Incidentally, Riley is credited here as "Billy Riley", and the label also includes in the credits "The Little Green Men", a reminder of his earlier regional hit "Flying Saucers Rock 'n' Roll". Note: This beautiful copy has Mint labels except for a tiny faint stain on the A side where a small sticker was removed (see scan). The vinyl and audio grade Near Mint as well.
