Share Your Love With Me/ Greyhound

Editorial aside: Rogers showed good taste in covering this 1964 Bobby Bland nugget... there really is a small intersection between Soul and Country, where Country songs are successfully covered by Soul artists, and as in this case, the reverse. For example, Candi Staton recorded a magnificent version of "Stand By Your Man" in 1970, and of course Ray Charles recorded many great Country classics, including "I Can't Stop Loving You," written and originally recorded by Don Gibson. Whitney Houston had perhaps her biggest hit with a Country song... "I Will Always Love You," written and originally recorded by Dolly Parton. Some white artists, such as Roy Head and Joe South, straddled that line, and it's truly magical when Soul and Country meet in the music they made. I don't personally feel that Kenny Rogers adds anything to the awesome Bobby Bland version, and his effort is not compelling (to me), but I applaud him for seeing the Country-crossover potential in an RnB/Soul nugget like "Share Your Love With Me" and for bringing the song to a whole new audience and time. (Perhaps producer Lionel Richie had a hand in the decision. :-)
