The Devil You Know/ Zeroes And Ones

This is a new, unplayed copy of the 1993 "jukebox only" release. Though it didn't crack the Bilozoard Hot 100, this tune spent 6 weeks at the top of the Bilozoard "Modern Rock" chart in early 1993... more than did their signature hit, "Right Here, Right Now." Sadly, by the time this single came out, the record companies had almost completely ceased supporting the 7-inch, 45 rpm vinyl format as the default format for "Singles." For a few years, 45 rpm junkies could count on some of the hits being released in our favored format, mostly to satisfy the perceived demand by jukebox operators/owners. That's why they started adding "For Jukeboxes Only!" on the labels... presumably you would void the warranty (or something) if you played the product at 45 rpm on a regular turntable. Sounds ridiculous, right? And yet, it's a telling sign of the disdain the record companies came to perceive the 45 rpm 7-inch format, that they could attempt to exclude use by non-jukebox players. What was the point, except to say to 45 rpm collectors who don't rely on jukeboxes, "Your market doesn't matter to us. We only support the 45 rpm 7-inch format to satisfy demand by jukebox owners. You other guys — who just prefer the 7-inch format — don't matter." In any case, I can assure you that no one will care if you use this record on a turntable, even though it plainly states, in bold capital letters: "For Jukeboxes Only!" :-)
