Zone/ Prime Cut

This rare single has two awesome instrumental sides not to be missed. On first listen, I'd say I prefer the flip, and it's on that basis that I'm awarding the 45 2 stars, our highest recommendation. Simply unbelievable, and more in a Soul than Funk vein but with a groove that just won't quit! The A side ("Zone," as judged by the marketplace in 1976) managed to barely sneak onto the Black/RnB Singles chart, and according to Joel Whitburn the group eventually morphed into the band known as GQ. Collector's Nerd Alert: The 45 indicates that "Prime Cut" is the intended A side, but we side with the marketplace as measured by the weekly singles charts from the various industry trade publications (Bilozoard, Cash Box, etc.) And apparently, radio programmers chose to plug the heavily Funk-style "Zone" over the more Soul-based sound of "Prime Cut". Also interesting is that "Prime Cut" didn't appear on the group's one and only album, so it's a non-album cut available only on this 45 or a couple of very expensive CD compilations. Note: This beautiful 45 has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
