Four Strong Winds/ The John B. Sails

Here are two terrific folk recordings by the boys from the University of Washington. The A side is the first known recording of Ian Tyson's classic song, which was eventually voted as the best Canadian song of all time. The flip, which is even better, is a version of the traditional folk song made famous by the Beach Boys with their 1966 hit, "Sloop John B." The song itself has been around since 1927, and the earliest version I've heard is the one by the Weavers, "(The Wreck of the) John B" from 1951.
