This is a new, unplayed Test Pressing from the

collection. Double-Wow! Last month I sold a gorgeous Mint promo of "Funky Broadway" from the Louise Neal collection, and now I'm offering this priceless treasure — a Test Pressing from Atlantic Recording Studios with "Funky Broadway" playing in pristine Mint condition on both sides! The A side label (see scan) shows the address of the recording studios and is clearly a pre-printed sticker on which the artist, title, and label number have been manually typed. (Interestingly, also "BMI".) Test pressings are much rarer than an actual promo release. According to Wikipedia, "Test Pressings ... are the first vinyl discs made at the factory. They are produced in small quantities (usually under 5 copies) to evaluate the quality of the disc before mass production begins." (Other sources estimate 5-10 copies are typically made.) If this is true, how did Louise Neal end up with this very rare test pressing of one of Wilson Pickett's most iconic hits? Could this be evidence of the romance that Neal's relatives say blossomed briefly between Ms. Neal and Mr. Pickett? (She also had an affair with Joe Tex, according to the same sources.) In any case, I seriously doubt I'll ever see another copy of this particular test pressing in my lifetime. Note: The sticker used for the test pressing has some light yellowing in spots (see scan); the "B" side is a pure white label. Although the vinyl show very light evidence of storage wear, the grooves retain the pristine audio they were born with! The labels show no credits, but I'm leaving the known credits in the data for this release.
