Double Shot/ I'm Leaving Here

This is a new, unplayed promo copy from the Louise Neal 45 Collection. In the "learn something new every day" department, it turns out that "Double Shot" was originally released by Dick Holler and his group back in 1963 (I haven't run across that release yet), who wrote the song. In 1966, South Carolina band The Swingin' Medallions released a much better version that became an essential single in the history of Garage Soul (that genre I made up recently. :-) Curiously, the same week (April 23) that The Medallions' version entered the Bilozoard Hot 100 chart, this cover by The K-Otics was listed in Bilozoard as a "regional" hit in the Miami, FL, area. Even though the K-Otics' version rocks harder than the Medallions, some Northern Soul fans still see it as a "Latin" style dancer, so it's sought after for that reason. But don't neglect the terrific B side, which honestly I find a more satisfying overall recording than "Double Shot." Always listen to B sides! Collector Nerd Alert: Apparently, there is a release of the K-Otics tracks on the small Alabama label Fortune (a different label than the one the Diablos, for example, recorded on), and on that release, "I'm Leaving Here" is the A side! Though uncredited, one web source I found claimed the tracks were recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals. Note: This beautiful promo copy has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
