Originally released on Atlantic 2962. This is a like-new copy of the gold/black label Atlantic Oldies reissue, in its original factory sleeve. This release has the edited, short version (3:20) version of the song. There's a reason this song is in the top half of Dave Marsh's list of the 1001 greatest singles ever made... It's a perfect Philly soul record. Note: The first release of this tune clocked at 3:31, but Atlantic pulled it and replaced it with this one, which is 11 seconds shorter... 3:20. It turns out that the trimmed bit has what might have been mistaken for an offensive lyric. The bit comes right after the instrumental bridge, where Phil Wynne sings,\r\n

The first couple of times I listened to it today, I thought Wynne was singing, "You just gotta hurt her, yeah," and I suspect that's what some other listeners thought, giving Atlantic an earful I suppose.
