I Can Learn/ It Happens This Way

This is a beautiful promo copy from the Louise Neal 45 Collection. As far as I can determine, The Chains had only this one 45 rpm record to explain their sound, which is one of my favorites: The Chains are clearly a former doo-wop vocal group making the transition to Soul. The A side takes some cues from leading-edge Soul groups like The Miracles and Impressions, offering a propulsive mid-tempo, Northern Soul-style track. On the flip, the group's RnB roots show through in another appealing dancer, with shades of the early Falcons. Love 'em both! Note: This 45 is among those in the Neal collection that she may have actually played, but no more than once or twice I would guess. In this case, the labels are basically flawless except for the small, light "star" stamp on the A side (see scan). The vinyl exhibits faint signs of storage wear and/or use, grading Near Mint. The vinyl has faint inherent surface noise, which is occasionally lightly audible beneath the music. Overall, the audio is Near Mint. (As part of the description of "Near Mint" audio in our Grading Guide, we say that audio graded Near Mint means the record is good enough for play on the radio or in clubs... the noise alluded to is unobtrusive to that degree.)
