First time in the store for this unique item from the lead singer of the Cleftones.
"Heart And Soul" by the Cleftones started taking off (it would eventually peak at #10 R&B and #18 Pop). That's why, in May, the company decided to release "Vacation In The Mountains" with only Herb's name on it. Their reasoning was that "Vacation" was a summer song, so it didn't pay to hold it back. The flip, "Leave My Woman Alone," was also led by Herb and also had the full group. (These came out on a reactivated Rama label, so as not to compete with "Heart And Soul" on Gee.) While the logic may have made sense to management, Herb feels that the others in the group didn't like that only his name appeared on the label and, in truth, there were efforts on the part of the company to break Herb out as a soloist. The A side is a great example of a former Doo-Wop group transitioning to Soul... well worth seeking out! The B-side is solidly in the Soul world and worthy of Ray Charles. This record appears nearly untouched, and vinyl that is Near Mint due to storage wear. Reference copy when paired with the unique vintage Rama sleeve for this era. (This scan is a representative image from our archives--the copy for sale has nearly Mint labels)
