Finally! Here's a beautiful copy of the first 1968 pressing of this classic tune, which credits the A side writer as "Redwave" and has a track time of 4:26. In this first release, the song just 'bubbled under' the Bilozoard Hot 100 at #103 in February 1968. The 1968 pressing also comes in a 3:06 edited version and with different writers, typically "Justin Hayward." The song was re-released in 1972 in the wake of their other recent chart successes and went all the way to #2 that year. Collector Nerd Alert: The 1968 and 1972 pressings are difficult to distinguish because they look a lot alike and have the same catalog number. One distinguishing characteristic that I believe is useful is that the 1968 pressings (regardless of who is credited as the A side writer) have a catalog number preceded by "45-", rather than the "5N-" prefix Deram used in the 1970s. All the various releases are specially edited versions of a 7:38 album track. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Deram Records factory sleeve. It has Mint labels, and the vinyl (styrene) looks almost untouched. The audio grades Near Mint overall but does have faint degradatiion in one channel.
