Limbo Rock/ Popeye (The Hitchhiker)

Chubby Checker had quite a few big Top 10 hits — "The Twist" actually topping the chart twice, in two different years — but not many two-sided hits. Of those, this was his biggest, with both sides hitting the Top 10. Interestingly, Parkway intended "Popeye" to be the hit, marking it as the A side, though of course "Limbo Rock" was much bigger — both at the time and as part of Checker's musical legacy. Who can imagine a cruise-ship or beach party without somebody initiating a limbo contest at some point? :-) Note: This copy's audio is a strong EX, reflecting light surface noise that's audible at the beginning. The labels are mint, and the picture sleeve is about as close to perfect as a sleeve can be... Beautiful!
