Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft/ Can't Smile Without You

I'm taking votes to see who else thinks this is one of the strangest songs of the late 1970s... especially strange coming from the Carpenters. What gave them the idea to cover this song from Klaatu, which, in the song's subtitle on the label is deemed "The Recognized Anthem of World Contact Day." Other contenders for weirdest (what were they thinking?) song title of the late 1970s is "Was Dog A Doughnut" (Cat Stevens) and "It Makes Me Giggle" (John Denver). :-) This copy comes in the release's very cool picture sleeve. Believe it or not, the album version of this tune is 7:07 minutes long! Note: The 45 itself has grades Near Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio) The picture sleeve grades VG and has notable wrinkling and top edge wear. I've seen it so rarely that I'm willing to offer the sleeve in this condition. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
