Always On My Mind

This is a new, unplayed Stereo/Stereo promo copy, in its original picture sleeve. This special promo is pressed on clear purple vinyl. "Always On My Mind" was originally released on RCA 0815 along with "Separate Ways;" it was re-released in 1985 as part of the Elvis 50th Anniversary celebration. I've learned a lot today about this song — one of my all-time favorites. First of all, I never realized it had been recorded by so many other artists... before Willie Nelson's definitive version in 1982! The earliest I could find was Brenda Lee's, which was a mediocre hit in the Country market in 1972. But Elvis' 1973 version is a revelation: I still think I prefer Willie's reading, but Elvis' definitely deserves to be heard more than it is, and it reflects good taste that he chose it to record.
