Hot Stuff (Short Version)/ (Long Version)

From the group's 1976 album em:Black And Blue, "Hot Stuff" is a dynamite demonstration of the Stones' power as a funk outfit. In fact, the song is one of only four Stones tracks that charted on the Black/RnB Billboard singles chart over the years. (The other three are "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (#19r), "19th Nervous Breakdown" (#32r), and "Miss You" (#33r).)

This single generated a relatively large number of promotional releases, in different configurations. Since it was a double-sided hit (with "Fool To Cry" the main plug side), radio stations got promos with the following configurations:

  • Fool To Cry (same on both sides)
  • Fool To Cry (long/short versions)
  • Hot Stuff (same on both sides)
  • Hot Stuff (long/short versions)
  • Fool To Cry/ Hot Stuff

Of these, the last one is the rarest, and the releases with "Special Edited Short Versions" (like this one) the next most collectible. The retail stock copies, incidentally, have the long, LP versions of the tracks.

In this case, the LP version of "Hot Stuff" is 5:21, and the edited version is 3:26. Hot Stuff, indeed!

Note: The short label has a "76" penciled on it. The promo is otherwise pristine Mint.
