Jan & Dean were an American rock duo consisting of William Jan Berry and Dean Ormsby Torrence. Known for their pioneering influence on the "surf music" style of the 1960s, their signature sound combined tight harmonies with upbeat, beach-themed lyrics. Their most significant work is "Surf City," a number one hit that solidified their place in music history. Despite Berry's tragic car accident in 1966 which ended their peak productivity, Jan & Dean's music remains emblematic of 1960s Californian surf culture.
