Joe Turner

A singer with pedigrees in both jazz and rhythm and blues, Turner's blues shouting on top of Pete Johnson's boogie-woogie piano helped give birth to rock 'n' roll. "Shake, Rattle and Roll" reached No. 2 on the R&B charts in 1952, inspiring the pop version by Bill Haley and the Comets later that year. "Corrina, Corrina," No. 3 on the R&B charts, became his biggest pop hit when it reached No. 41.
