Paul Gayten was an American rhythm and blues pianist, producer, and songwriter who made significant contributions to the New Orleans music scene in the 1940s and 1950s. His music combined elements of jazz, blues, and early rock and roll, with his biggest hit, "For You My Love," reaching number one on the R&B chart in 1949. Gayten was an important figure in the transition from big band to smaller rhythm and blues combos, and his work as a producer for Chess Records helped popularize New Orleans R&B. His influence on the genre and the artists he worked with, such as Chuck Berry and Etta James, is still recognized today.
