Rank & File was an American country rock band that emerged in the early 1980s, known for pioneering a cross-genre sound that became known as 'cowpunk'. The band was formed by siblings Chip and Tony Kinman, former members of the punk band The Dils. Rank & File's distinctive style blended punk's raw energy with traditional country music elements, making their 1982 debut album, "Sundown", a significant milestone in the alternative country movement. Despite their brief existence, they had a lasting impact on genre-bending bands that followed.
