Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs were an American rock and roll band formed in 1961. The band, led by Domingo "Sam" Samudio, was known for their fusion of Tex-Mex, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll, characterized by Samudio's distinctive growly, expressive vocals. They gained international fame with their 1965 Billboard Hot 100 number-two hit "Wooly Bully," and were noted for their campy, costume-laden performances. Despite their brief peak in popularity, the band played a significant role in the mid-1960s garage rock movement.
