Sequence was an influential American female hip-hop trio, active from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s, and was notable for being among the first all-female rap groups. The group consisted of Cheryl Cook, Gwendolyn Chisolm, and lead singer/rapper Angie Brown Stone. Their style blended elements of funk, soul, and R&B with their pioneering rap lyrics. Their signature sound can be heard in their biggest hit, "Funk You Up," which holds significance for being one of the earliest hip-hop hits by a female group.
