Side Effect was an American disco and jazz-funk band, active from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. Their distinct musical style smoothly blended elements of funk, soul, and R&B with a danceable disco beat. The band was primarily made up of Augie Johnson, Jim Gilstrap, Gregory Matta and Lometta Johnson, with Augie Johnson being the most notable member due to his later success as a solo artist. Side Effect's most influential work is arguably their 1976 album "What You Need", which gained significant recognition in the disco and jazz-funk scene.
