The Bats are an influential indie pop band from Christchurch, New Zealand, formed in 1982. The band is notable for maintaining the original lineup of Robert Scott, Paul Kean, Malcolm Grant, and Kaye Woodward throughout their career. Their musical style is characterized by jangly guitar pop with folk and country influences, which is showcased in their landmark album "Daddy's Highway" (1987). The Bats have made a significant contribution to what is often termed the "Dunedin Sound," a sub-genre of indie pop from New Zealand.
