The Blackbyrds were an American rhythm and blues and jazz-funk fusion group, formed in Washington, D.C., in 1973. The band was mentored by trumpeter Donald Byrd and featured outstanding musicians like Keith Killgo and Kevin Toney. Their style combined jazz, funk, and R&B, creating a signature sound that was influential in the development of jazz-funk genre. Their 1975 hit "Walking in Rhythm" received a Grammy nomination and remains one of their most significant works.
