The Chips

The Chips were a doo-wop vocal group from New York City, active during the late 1950s. Their most recognized hit, "Rubber Biscuit," is notable for its unique nonsensical lyrics and rhythmic scat singing provided by lead vocalist, Charles Johnson. The group's music, though not extensively recorded, had a significant influence on the development of doo-wop and early rhythm and blues. Despite their brief existence, The Chips' distinctive vocal style and unique approach to songwriting have left an enduring impact on American popular music.
