Formed in Los Angeles in 1955, they became particularly notable for a string of hits written by the duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Some of their most influential works include "Yakety Yak", "Charlie Brown", and "Poison Ivy". Their distinctive sound, blending humor with classic R&B, has had a significant impact on the development of rock and roll and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
