The Essex was an American R&B vocal group formed in 1962, known for their doo-wop inspired sound. Led by Walter Vickers and Rodney Taylor, both active duty members of the United States Marine Corps, the group achieved a Billboard number one hit, "Easier Said Than Done", in 1963. Their style, a mix of R&B and pop, was distinctive due to its military influence and harmonious vocal arrangements. Despite their short-lived career, The Essex left a significant mark on the early 60s music scene.
