The Mirettes

The Mirettes were an American R&B girl group active in the 1960s and 1970s, notable for being originally part of The Ikettes, the backing singers for Ike & Tina Turner. Comprised of Robbie Montgomery, Venetta Fields, and Jessie Smith, The Mirettes embraced a musical style defined by soulful harmonies and a blend of pop and R&B. Their most successful single, "In the Midnight Hour," reached number 45 on the Billboard R&B chart. The Mirettes hold significance in music history as they bridge the gap between the classic girl group sound of the early 1960s and the funkier soul and R&B that evolved later in the decade.
