The New Vaudeville Band was a British pop group active during the mid-1960s. They are best known for their hit single "Winchester Cathedral," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1966 and won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Song. The band's unique musical style combined elements of 1920s and '30s vaudeville music with contemporary pop, resulting in a distinctive 'novelty' sound. Despite undergoing numerous lineup changes, the group's mainstay was songwriter Geoff Stephens, whose whimsical compositions defined their oeuvre.
