The Prisonaires

The Prisonaires were an American doo-wop and R&B group, significant for their formation and performances while incarcerated at Tennessee State Penitentiary in the 1950s. Their line-up, most famously including lead singer Johnny Bragg, crafted a unique sound influenced by gospel, blues, and pop. They gained national attention with their hit song "Just Walkin' in the Rain," which was later covered by multiple artists. The Prisonaires are historically significant for illustrating the transformative power of music in rehabilitation and for their contribution to the early development of rock and roll.
