The Showmen were an American doo-wop and rhythm and blues band, renowned for their 1961 hit "It Will Stand". Formed in Norfolk, Virginia in 1956, they were led by the distinctive vocals of General Norman Johnson, who later found success with the Chairmen of the Board. Their signature sound combined elements of gospel, soul, and R&B, and they are often credited with contributing to the development of the popular beach music genre in the mid-Atlantic region.
